MIPCOM reveals attendee expectations & names Asian World Premiere

MIPCOM 2019

MIPCOM organiser RX France (fka Reed Midem) is preparing to welcome 10,000 producers, buyers, commissioners and creatives to France next month, as the industry returns en masse to Cannes for the first time since the pandemic.

The 38th edition of the event, which runs 17-20 October, has more than 300 confirmed exhibiting studios and distributors, including A+E Networks, Fox Entertainment, BBC Studios, Banijay, Warner Bros. International Television Distribution and Paramount Global Content Distribution.

Around 3,000 buyers and commissioners are currently expected, with an expanded co-production focus also being introduced via ‘The Seaview Producers Hub’. It will consist of a 10,673sqft networking lounge and event space, along with dedicated sessions and daily events.

RX has also confirmed that it has struck a deal with Kansai TV that will see the return of the Asian World Premiere at the International Co-Production and Entertainment Content Market, with Elpis set to premiere on 18 October.

Lucy Smith, director of MIPCOM Cannes and MIPJUNIOR, said: “The global appetite for authentic, authored international drama has never been stronger. The standard has also never been higher, with Elpis yet another exceptional example. We are thrilled to stage it and to bring the tradition of the Asian World Premiere back to this year’s full strength MIPCOM.”

The 38th iteration of MIPCOM takes place 17-20 October 2022, with MIPJUNIOR returning to its pre-market weekend schedule 15-16 October at the JW Marriott Cannes. A pandemic-hampered MIPCOM returned to Cannes last year, but the last major event took place in 2019, when organisers reported 13,500 registered participants.
