South Park keeps global nets laughing

Comedy Central’s animated series South Park is continuing to roll out internationally after Viacom International Media Networks struck a raft of deals for its 15th season.

The new series of the show, which was created by Trey Parker and Mat Stone,  has been picked up by Australian public broadcaster SBS, Ukraine’s QVT, Poland’s Canal Plus, Turkey’s CNBC-e and Norway’s TV2, which has also relicensed the previous 14 seasons.

Meanwhile, Australian pay broadcaster Foxtel has acquired season 14 of the show and Canada’s Teletoon has picked up French-language rights for season 13.

Nicaragua’s Telenica has bought 14 seasons of the show as part of a volume package. This comes as Comedy Central is set to launch across Latin America in January and will air the adult comedy.

Other deals struck by the international programme sales arm of the MTV-owner include a package deal with Norway’s TV Norge, which picked up a series of Comedy Central Roasts, The Daily Show Global Edition and two seasons of Workaholics. Separately, Middle Eastern broadcaster OSN Comedy Channel has bought The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report.
