‘Chernobyl’, ‘Game Of Thrones’ win big at Creative Arts Emmys

Chernobyl

HBO’s Game Of Thrones and Chernobyl emerged as the top winners at the weekend’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremonies.

Held across Saturday (14 September) and Sunday nights, the awards salute outstanding artistic and technical achievement in television.

The first night’s awards honoured artists and craftspeople in reality, variety special, documentary, animated programme and short-form animation, choreography for variety or reality programme, and interactive programme. The second night saw prizes awarded for short-form drama and comedy series, casting, cinematography and guest performers in comedy and drama series.

Game Of Thrones took home the most prizes for both nights combined, winning 10 gongs, while Chernobyl came in second with seven awards.

Top awards for Game Of Thrones were across single-camera picture editing, sound mixing, casting, music composition, costumes and sound editing.

The show’s controversial ‘The Long Night’ episode garnered a number of awards, despite criticism for its naturalistic shooting style. Notably, it did not pick up any cinematography prizes.

Elsewhere, Nat Geo’s Oscar-winning feature doc Free Solo also picked up seven, while Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel won six. Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots won five prizes.

Other notable winners were Netflix’s Our Planet which won Outstanding Documentary/Non-Fiction Series; HBO’s Leaving Neverland, which picked up Outstanding Documentary/Non-Fiction Special; and CNN’s Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown, which won Outstanding Informational Series/Special.

The Primetime Emmy Awards are to take place on Sunday, 22 September.
