Netflix acquires doc on Fyre Festival controversy

Netflix has acquired a documentary film about the unravelling of the Fyre music festival.

Created by Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule, Fyre was promoted as a luxury music festival on a private island in the Bahamas featuring bikini-clad supermodels, A-List musical performances and posh amenities. Guests arrived to discover the reality was far from the promises.

Chris Smith, the director behind the Emmy Award nominated doc Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond, gives a behind-the-scenes look at the fallout as told by the organisers themselves.

The title is produced by Danny Gabai (Vice Studios), Smith (Library Films) and Mick Purzycki (Jerry Media).

Executive producers include Brett Kincaid, Max Pollack, Matthew Rowean, Gabrielle Bluestone, James Ohliger and Elliot Tebele. Editors include Jon Karman and Koehler.

Smith’s directing credits include a list of titles that poke at some of the more curious aspects of the ‘American dream’, such as American Movie, Collapse, The Yes Men and The Pool.
