The CW cancels Jared Padalecki drama ‘Walker’ after four seasons
The CW has cancelled Jared Padalecki-starring drama Walker after four seasons, as the Nexstar-owned channel continues to cull its scripted output.
The series – a remake of 1990’s hit Walker, Texas Ranger – was produced by CBS Studios in association with US firms Pursued By A Bear Productions and Stick To Your Guns.
Walker had survived the initial scripted cutback on The CW by Nexstar following its acquisition of the network from Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount, which saw teen dramas like Riverdale and a slew of ‘Arrowverse‘ superhero shows axed.
However, its run has now come to an end in a move that means only All American and spin-off, All American: Homecoming, remain on the slate from the The CW’s WBD/Paramount days.
“We want to thank the entire cast, crew, writers, directors and producers of Walker for their hard work and dedication over four incredible seasons,” The CW said. “We also want to give a special thanks to star and executive producer Jared Padalecki, who has been a member of The CW family for over 20 years and was integral to some of the biggest hits on the network.”
The CW was acquired by Nexstar in 2022 and has previously talked up plans to populate The CW with “broader and cheaper programming”, signalling a push into more unscripted programming.
More recently, the network has acquired international scripted programming such as Canada’s The Spencer Sisters.
