Paramount-owned CBS in the US is continuing to refresh its scripted slate, with an order for Fire Country spin-off Sheriff Country.

Produced by CBS Studios, Sheriff Country will star Morena Baccarin, reprising her Fire Country role as sheriff Mickey Fox, who investigates crime in the small town of Edgewater, while dealing with an ex-con father and wayward daughter.

The first episode is being written by Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, with story by Phelan, Rater and Max Thieriot. The trio, who are the creators of Fire Country, will exec produce, alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed for Jerry Bruckheimer Television.

Plans for a Fire Country spin-off first emerged last year, with CBS president & CEO George Cheeks, who was recently appointed to Paramount Global’s ‘Office of the CEO’, stating at the Banff World Media Festival last year that: “Fire Country completely lends itself to new worlds, we’re really doubling down on that focus but it doesn’t have to be known IP.”

Other previously announced upcoming shows in the works at CBS include new seasons of Fire Country, Ghosts and S.W.A.T., which was saved from cancellation, as well as Mark Harmon-narrated NCIS prequel NCIS: Origins and Young Sheldon spin-off Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

Meanwhile, on the chopping block are long-running police procedural Blue Bloods, crime dramas CSI: Vegas and NCIS: Hawai’i and legal comedy-drama So Help Me Todd.

Speaking at the unveiling of CBS’s fall 2024 schedule this week, Cheeks briefly addressed his recent promotion, commenting: “We are in the process of finalizing our strategic plan which we are going to roll out as soon as possible,” and clarifying that his CBS duties will remain unchanged.
