Banijay has struck an exclusive development deal with Marco Pos, the Dutch producer who created the hit reality format The Traitors.

The deal, with Pos’ indie label MPLab, will see the exec team up to develop new entertainment formats for the production and distribution giant, which is behind recent titles such as The Summit, Shaolin Heroes and The Fifty.

Pos will work closely with Banijay’s chief content officer, development, James Townley to devise original non-scripted formats with broad international appeal.

The rights to all IP created will sit with Banijay and be available to its portfolio of production labels, with distribution handled by Banijay Rights.

As well as creating the original version of The Traitors, known locally as De Verraders, for Dutch broadcaster RTL 4, Pos also directed the first season of Banijay’s Big Brother in the Netherlands.

His other credits include Prinsengrachtconcert (a classical festival on Amsterdam’s canals); Maestro; the Popsecret concerts with Robbie Williams and Alicia Keys; and the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest.

“Marc’s creative talents are irrefutable, and we feel fortunate to be welcoming him to the Banijay fold. The deserved success of The Traitors has enthralled the industry and illustrated, with our own recent travelling hits Good Luck Guys, The Summit and The Fifty, that good shows are still able to draw global audiences,” said Townley.
