Netflix expands Nigerian originals slate
Netflix has unveiled two new Nigerian originals series and a film as part of a slate of projects from women filmmakers in the country and other parts of Africa, as it celebrates International Women’s Day.
On the series side, Mo Abudu is exec producing Baby Farm for Netflix, which tells the story of Adanna, a young pregnant woman, who unknowingly entrusts her unborn twins to a high-profile NGO, only to discover she’s become a prisoner of a sinister baby farm. Rita Dominic and Joseph Benjamin star.
This joins Abudu’s previously announced Òlòtūré: The Journey, which follows a young journalist working undercover as a sex worker in Nigeria and stars Sharon Ooja.
The other new series title announced today is Postcards from director and producer Hamisha Daryani Ahuja, which follows four conflicted Nigerians in India as they find identity and acceptance while facing their fears and desires through a journey of love and self-discovery.
Also announced today is the film House Of Ga’a, set in the Oyo Empire in the 18th century and based on the true life events surrounding Bashorun Ga’a. Femi Brach stars, while Bolanle Austen-Peters directs and produces, alongside Joseph Umoibom.
The new shows will join an existing slate including Kemi Adetiba’s drama series To Kill A Monkey, a third season of reality series Young, Famous And African and fourth season of Blood And Water.
