David Jenkins, creator of US pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death, has sunk hopes of the show returning for a third season.

Writing on Instagram, Jenkins said that efforts to place the series with a new home had failed, following its cancellation by Warner Bros. Discovery streamer Max earlier this year.

“I can officially confirm that we’ve reached the end of the road,” wrote Jenkins. “At least as far as this sweet show is concerned. After many complimentary meetings, conversations, etc., it seems there is no alternate home for our crew.”

Max cancelled the comedy series in January after two seasons. The show was exec produced by Taika Waititi and starred Rhys Darby as a fictionalised version of real-life pirate Stede Bonnet, alongside Waititi as Edward ‘Blackbeard’ Teach. The show had sold internationally to broadcasters such as the BBC in the UK.

Jenkins thanked fans for their support for the show, with many lobbying for the series’ return. He wrote: “Your campaign was noticed across the industry. But more importantly it made all of us who worked on this show better able to deal with the loss.”
