Germany’s ZDF plans ‘Race Across The World’ with All3Media’s Tower

German broadcaster ZDF has ordered a local version of All3Media International format Race Across The World.

Originally produced by Studio Lambert for the BBC in the UK, the German version will be produced by All3Media label Tower as a six-part series for debut in 2025.

With only the cash equivalent of the airfare to fly the route, the format follows teams as they seek quick and inexpensive ways to travel through countries and climates without the modern trappings of smartphones, internet access and credit cards. Be it on foot, by boat, by bike or on a camel, the team that reaches the final checkpoint first wins the prize money.

The original UK version of the show has run for three seasons and one celebrity season in the UK on the BBC, with a new season of both the original and celebrity version commissioned.

The format has previously sold internationally to countries including Denmark where three seasons from Strong Productions have aired in on TV2; Finland, where the first series will premiere next month on MTV Katsomo and MTV3, produced by Mosikto Televosion; and the Netherlands, where the first season has aired on RTL, produced by All3Media’s IDTV.
