SkyShowtime makes first Polish commission with ‘Sleboda’ adaptation
Comcast and Paramount’s European streamer SkyShowtime has commissioned its first Polish original with an adaptation of the crime novel Sleboda.
The show is based on the first in a series of novels by Małgorzata Fugiel-Kuźmińska and Michał Kuźmiński and will be produced by Magdalena Szwedkowicz (Forgotten Love) and directed by Michał Gazda (The Pack, Forgotten Love).
SkyShowtime said that the commission marks an expansion of its locally produced originals as part of a continued commitment to provide exclusive programming that resonates with local audiences across its markets.
While this is SkyShowtime’s first Polish commission, Sleboda is not its first Polish original to launch, with SkyShowtime having picked up Warszawianka (aka Still Here), the drama series originally ordered for HBO Max, last year.
Kai Finke, who was appointed as chief content officer at SkyShowtime in September, said: “After less than a year since the launch of our service in Central and Eastern Europe, I’m thrilled to announce that we are commissioning our first Polish original series, Sleboda. With this show we are marking our continued commitment to delivering high quality local entertainment to our members.”
Sleboda joins a scripted offering including Swedish crime thriller Veronika and Sky production The Tattooist Of Auschwitz, which will both launch on the service this year.
