Disney is to launch the first episode of its upcoming fantasy series Percy Jackson And The Olympians on Hulu at the same time that it drops of Disney+.

The series, based on the book series by Rick Riordan, lands with a two-episode premiere on streaming service Disney+ on 20 December, but the Mouse House is giving non-subscribers the chance to see the first episode via Hulu as well.

The move follows other Disney+ originals appearing on alternative Disney outlets earlier in recent months, including Ms Marvel being shown on broadcast channel ABC in summer and the first two episodes of Andor appearing on Hulu and ABC, as well as FX and Freeform TV networks last year.

Showing Percy Jackson on Hulu appears to be part of the ongoing showcasing of content that the Mouse House hopes will draw non-subscribers to sign up to Disney+.

Created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg, the series follows the titular Jackson on a dangerous quest. Outrunning monsters and outwitting gods, he must journey across America to return Zeus’ master bolt and stop an all-out war.

The series stars Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood.
