M6, Mediaset, VTM & RTL KLUB saddle up for Secuoya’s ‘Zorro’
M6 group in France, Mediaset in Italy, DPG Media for VTM channels in Flemish Belgium and RTL KLUB in Hungary have acquired drama series Zorro following deals with distributor Mediawan Rights.
Produced by Spain’s Secuoya Studios, Zorro will start airing during the first quarter of 2024 on Amazon Prime Video in the US, Latin America, Spain, Andorra and Portugal. Other deals are in negotiation, said Mediawan Rights.
Set in 1834 Los Angeles, this updated version of the classic character Diego de la Vega, who is the secret masked hero of the people. Following the death of his father, the previous Zorro, de la Vega returns to California from Spain to avenge the murder.
Valérie Vleeschhouwer, MD of Mediawan Rights, said: “We are thrilled with these first deals for Zorro. It shows how strong the IP is and that this great news version will embrace a global audience all over the world.”
The first episode of the 10-part series was presented last night during a screening at MIPCOM Cannes in the presence of lead actors Miguel Bernardeau, Renata Notni and Dalia Xiuhcoatl.
Zorro is executive produced by John Gertz for Zorro Productions Inc. who was a producer on The Mask of Zorro and The Legend of Zorro feature films. David Martínez, David Cotarelo, Sergio Pizzolante and Angela Agudo exec produce for Secuoya Studios, Andy Kaplan for KC Global Media and Jesús Torres and Glenda Pacanins for NoStatusQuo Studios.
