Sherlock and The Time Traveler’s Wife producer Hartswood Films is exploring its future, with a potential sale among options being considered.

The company was founded in 1979 by Beryl Vertue, who died last year aged 90, with the production firm subsequently being passed to her daughters.

Hartswood is now assessing its options, according to the Sunday Times, with partial investment to support growth or a full sale among avenues being considered.

The company is one of the few remaining UK-based high-profile scripted indies, with a slate that includes Wolf and The Control Room for the BBC, as well as The Devil’s Hour for Prime Video.

HBO Max was among buyers to subsequently pick up Wolf, while The Control Room has also travelled widely, helping the company’s revenue to hit £50.7m in 2022, with profits touching £7.8m.
