Asylum Entertainment Group has struck a new joint venture with Tyler Perry Studios, which has promoted former Fremantle staffer Antoinetta Stallings to a new unscripted role as part of the effort.

The deal will see Asylum and Perry’s production firm working together to co-develop, co-produce and distribute shows together, with Stallings becoming VP of unscripted programming at Tyler Perry Studios.

She will work alongside Asylum to develop and produce various unscripted formats for Tyler Perry Studios, which she joined in 2019.

Stallings was most recently creative executive at the firm, overseeing various scripted projects in development and current, and before that was an associate producer for Fremantle’s Grand Designs for A&E.

Perry said: “I’m excited to bring the world of unscripted content to Tyler Perry Studios. We’ve never tapped into this area of entertainment before and we’re looking forward to working closely with Asylum to bring unique real world stories to life.”

“Our collaboration with Tyler Perry Studios represents a fusion of unrivalled talent, ingenuity and passion for storytelling,” added Steve Michaels, CEO of Asylum.

LA-based Asylum has been busy over recent months following its backing by Endeavor last year, recently bagging first-look deals with filmmakers Lamont Pete and John H. Kelleher, having already taken stakes in UK-based production companies DARE Pictures, Soho Studios and Moon&Back Media.
