Disney+ Hotstar takes ‘Dead Pixels’ into India with Tamada Media
Disney+ Hotstar in India has ordered a remake of BBC Studios (BBCS) comedy Dead Pixels.
The Telugu adaptation will be a six-parter and is being produced by BBCS India and Tamada Media, with animation by Keyframe Studios.
Aditya Mandala directs, with Akshay Poolla attached to write and Niharika Konidela, Harsha Chemudu, Sai Ronak, Akshay Lagusani and Bhavana Sagi starring.
Dead Pixels follows the journey of three young friends whose lives revolve around an online video game, with the ultimate goal of defeating a virtual villain. The Indian show will based in the city of Hyderabad and is based on the Uk original created and written by Jon Brown.
It was produced for Channel 4’s E4 in the UK and was produced by Various Artists, with BBCS distributing.
India has become a frequent buyer of scripted formats from the UK broadcaster’s commercial arm, with remakes of shows including Luther, The Office and Criminal Justice ordered over recent years.
Last year, Mumbai-based SVOD service ZEE5 partnered with BBCS to build a slate of Hindi-language originals for the platform based on British formats, including The Broken News, based on the UK series Press.
