HBO orders ‘The Palace’, starring & exec produced by Kate Winslet
HBO has ordered The Palace, a new limited drama series starring and executive produced by Kate Winslet.
The production will be directed and executive produced by Stephen Frears (The Queen) and showrun, written by, and executive produced by Will Tracy (Succession).
Frank Rich (Succession) also serves as an executive producer, while writers for the limited series include Seth Reiss, Juli Weiner, Jen Spyra, Gary Shteyngart and Sarah DeLappe.
It will tell the story of one year within the walls of the palace of an authoritarian regime as it begins to unravel.
The project extends Winslet’s partnership with HBO, following her starring and exec producing role on the drama Mare Of Easttown and the network’s upcoming limited series adaptation of the Hernan Diaz novel Trust, in which she will also star and exec produce.
Winslet is also about to start filming Lee, the real-life story of famed photographer Lee Miller, in which she stars and is producing.
Francesca Orsi, EVP of HBO programming, commented: “We are honored to be working with this incredibly talented group of filmmakers on The Palace.
“The notion that Kate Winslet and Stephen Frears, two of our industry’s leading lights (who – remarkably – have never collaborated before now), are joining forces to bring Will Tracy’s wildly original, prescient, and dazzling scripts to life at HBO is a dream come true for us.”
