Netflix pauses production on ‘The Chosen One’ after actors killed in accident
Netflix has suspended production on drama The Chosen One after two of the show’s actors were killed in a crash involving a van while shooting in Mexico.
The accident occurred on the Baja California Sur peninsula when a van carrying actors and crew travelling to a local airport flipped over, according to local reports.
The Baja California Department of Culture has confirmed that the deceased actors are Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar, who performed under the name Paco Mufote.
Two other cast members and four crew were also injured and are in a stable condition.
The show is from US firm Redrum, which started production on the show in April. This has now been paused following the accident on 16 July.
Speaking to the Daily Beast, Aguilar’s friend Liliana Conlisk Gallegos said the actor had complained about travel conditions prior to the crash.
US union SAG-AFTRA said it is “investigating the circumstances [of the accident] with local production”, adding it had been in contact with Netflix and with the Mexican actors union ANDA.
“On set safety is always our top priority. We will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure that our members and others are safe in their workplace.”
The Chosen One is an adaptation of comic book American Jesus and follows a 12-year-old boy who finds out he is Jesus Christ and destined to save the world.
