TelevisaUnivision taps ViacomCBS & Telemundo alum for distribution
Recently minted Latin American giant TelevisaUnivision has named a former ViacomCBS exec to lead its distribution efforts.
Rita Herring becomes SVP of international distribution and reports into Michael Schwimmer, the company’s president of global platform strategy & revenue.
She takes on the remit that previously belonged to Fernando Muñiz, who had been general director of sales for Televisa Networks and Televisa Internacional but is leaving next month.
Carlos Castro, general director of sales, is taking interim charge of sales for Televisa Internacional, as well as its existing co-productions efforts. He reports into Patricio Wills, president of TelevisaUnivision’s W Studios.
Herring’s remit also includes oversight of linear pay television channel distribution for all markets outside the US and she will work with Adam Waltuch, SVP of streaming partnerships, on the roll-out of OTT service Vix.
The exec, who will be based in Miami and Mexico, was most recently leading distribution teams for ViacomCBS (now Paramount) based out of Miami and Latin America. Before that, she worked at NBCUniversal’s Telemundo and MTV Networks Latin America.
TelevisaUnivision merged earlier this year and is rolling out AVOD and SVOD versions of Vix, in a bid to position itself as the globally dominant Spanish-language streaming service. More than 50,000 hours of shows are on offer, including originals with the likes of Salma Hayek and live programming. Last month, it struck a first-look pact with Ben Silverman’s Propagate Fuego.
