Disney+ seeks ‘The Muppets Mayhem’
Disney+ has commissioned The Muppets Mayhem, a new comedy series following iconic Muppet band The Electric Mayhem as they record their first album.
The Disney Branded Television series is produced by ABC Signature and The Muppets Studio.
The series was developed and written by Adam F. Goldberg, Bill Barretta and Jeff Yorkes based on characters created by Jim Henson. Lilly Singh will play the (human) lead role of Nora, the junior A&R executive tasked with managing and wrangling the mayhem that is The Electric Mayhem Band.
“The Muppets are renowned for quality, creativity and unrivaled, fun storytelling for the whole family,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television. “We are thrilled to have Adam, Bill and Jeff at the helm to bring all of these iconic and great new characters to life in fresh and dynamic ways.”
CBC revives ‘Street Cents’ on TikTok
Canadian broadcaster CBC is reviving its 1990s/early 2000s Street Cents youth brand in a new format, relaunching the series on short form video platform TikTok,
Targeted at teens, this new version of Street Cents aims to make financial literacy useful, relatable and entertaining through daily short form video content. TikTok will be the show’s primary platform, but CBC says its content will be repurposed to others including Instagram and YouTube.
“Street Cents is an iconic Canadian brand and we couldn’t be more excited to introduce it to a new generation on a new platform,” said Sally Catto, general manager, entertainment, factual & sports, CBC.
“Street Cents frames financial literacy in a fun and age-appropriate context, helping to make money stuff make sense for teens. This is CBC’s first launch of an original content series on TikTok, and we’ve brought in a great team of creators who speak with authenticity and credibility to teen audiences.”
Latoya Raveneau inks Disney deal
Disney Television Animation has struck an overall deal with writer, producer and director Latoya Raveneau.
Raveneau, who is the exec producer of Rise Up, Sing Out and the director of The Proud Family: Louder And Producer on Disney+, will develop and produce animated projects with Disney Television Animation and 20th Television Animation, with the deal also including terms for live-action content development.
