Disney+ unveils first Dutch original with ‘Nemesis’

Disney+ has confirmed that its first scripted original in The Netherlands will be an adaptation of Simon de Waal’s Nemesis.

The eight-parter is from Dutch producer Pupkin and has Willem Bosch and Pieter Kuijpers attached as showrunners.

The crime thriller follows a public prosecutor who sees a key witness murdered in her own house. She then decides to track down the culprits and gets entangled in a web inhabited by a group of international criminals.

Mascha van Erven, director of local originals for Disney+ in the Benelux, said the show would be told by “the best storytellers within the Netherlands”.

Bosch added: “Pupkin is taking a major new step [with Nemesis] in realising its ambitions – a high-quality and high profile Dutch spoken drama that can compete with the major titles of other European countries.”

The commission is part of Disney’s burgeoning European drama plans, which will see the Mouse House streamer ordering 60 originals by 2024.
