Netflix continues ‘Money Heist’ with ‘Berlin’ spin-off series
Netflix has commissioned a spin-off to hit Spanish crime drama series Money Heist (aka La Casa De Papel), ahead of the show’s conclusión.
The spin-off series, which is named Berlin after the code name of Money Heist character Andrés de Fonollosa (Pedro Alonso) is set to debut in 2023, following the conclusion of the original show, which launches its final chapter this week.
“I’m so happy about it,” commented Alonso at a Money Heist fan event hosted by Netflix this week. “It is a memorable moment because it is the end of one cycle and the beginning of another.”
Money Heist follows a team of thieves who are recruited by a criminal genius named The Professor to pull off the biggest heist in history.
The news comes as Netflix confirmed that Squid Game star Park Hae-soo will take on the role of Berlin in the previously announced South Korean remake of Money Heist.
Kim Hong-sun is attached to helm the remake, while Ryu Young-jae Love will head up the writing team of the 12-part series, which is being produced by BH Entertainment and Contents Zium.
Show creator Alex Pina inked an exclusive overall deal with Netflix in 2018 after Money Heist became one of the streamer’s biggest hits, following its original debut on Antena 3 in Spain.
