IBC organisers cancel December’s physical event

The organisers of the IBC show have confirmed that the 2021 in-person event will not go ahead.

The Amsterdam show was scheduled to take place between 3-6 December, but questions started to be raised when the Dutch government launched a series of lockdown measures in response to mounting Covid-19 cases in the country.

These lockdown measures, which are scheduled to run until at least 3 December, place strict curfews on retail, dining and events.

In light of the restrictions and increased Covid risk, a number of major exhibitors including Canon and Synamedia withdrew from the show.

With mounting pressure from exhibitors and attendees, IBC has officially cancelled the event a little more than a week and a half before it’s scheduled staging.

In a statement, the event organiser said: “IBC announces that the in-person IBC2021 event has been cancelled.

The move follows growing concerns about the Covid-19 situation in The Netherlands, which has deteriorated over the past week, and feedback from the IBC exhibitor and visitor community.

The IBC Partnership Board made the decision today in order to prevent exhibitors and visitors from travelling to The Netherlands.”
