Disney+ buys Sky Italia drama ‘Anna’ across Europe as Fremantle racks up sales

Disney+ has taken a swathe of rights across Europe for Fremantle’s dystopian new-world drama, Anna.

The series is from Niccolo Ammaniti and was produced for Sky Italia by Fremantle-owned Wildside, with Arte France, Fremantle, the New Life Company and Kwaï co-producing.

It will now also become available via Disney+ in the UK and Ireland, Spain, Portugal, France, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

The six-parter has already been acquired by AMC+ in the US, where it will debut on 18 November, while Fremantle has also agreed sales with TV3 Group (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania), Cosmote TV and Hellenic (Greece), and Go PLC and Melita (Malta).

Manoto TV has taken rights in MENA, while Canal+ (Poland), Amedia TV Channels (Russia & CIS), BluTV (Turkey), MOLA TV (Indonesia, Malaysia & Singapore), Watcha (Korea) and Videotron (French speaking Canada) have also confirmed pick-ups.

The show is inspired by the eponymous novel that tracks the lives of children living in a world where a virus has killed all adults.

Jamie Lynn, EVP of co-production & distribution at Fremantle International, said: “Niccolò is a master storyteller and has assembled incredible talent both behind and in front of the camera to bring his visionary tale to life. With astonishing production values, this visually stunning adaptation of a much-loved novel raises universal issues of love, loss, heartbreak and hope.”
