ITV orders romantic drama ‘You & Me’; first commission for Happy Prince label
UK comcaster ITV has ordered relationship drama You & Me, the first commission for Dominic Treadwell-Collins’ new ITV Studios label Happy Prince.
The 3 x 60-minute series has been created and written by newcomer Jamie Davis and the project is also his first screenwriting commission. Filming is expected to begin later this summer, with the show distributed globally by ITV Studios.
You & Me is a romantic comedy drama about finding love when you least expect it, set in two timelines and following three characters who experience tragedies they feel they will never overcome.
Treadwell-Collins (EastEnders) will executive produce the show, alongside Russell T Davies (It’s A Sin), with the two having worked together previously on A Very English Scandal. You & Me will be overseen for ITV by drama head Polly Hill.
Drama label Happy Prince was set up by Treadwell-Collins in 2019, and wholly backed by ITV Studios, with a focus on high-end returning series for the UK and international market.
“Jamie’s writing is filled with such humour, heart and soul – so it feels fitting that You & Me is the first commission for Happy Prince,” said Treadwell-Collins. “It’s properly joyful and inspiring to work with Russell again and begin a creative relationship with a talent like Jamie”.
“I read hundreds of scripts, but this one shone out from the rest,” added Davies. “It’s an honour to help Jamie get this to the screen – it’s funny, fast, clever and heart breaking, everything you want a drama to be.”
Creator and writer Davis, who has also appeared as an actor on shows including Misfits, Shameless, Casualty and Switch, commented: “To be telling a love story that mixes the genres of romantic comedy, domestic drama and thriller is incredibly exciting – and to be doing so with people of such calibre, talent and renown on my first commission is more than I could ever have wished for.”
