eOne plans 100+ ‘Peppa Pig’ eps; creators Astley Baker Davies hand over animation to Karrot
Production and distribution company Entertainment One (eOne) is to produce more than 100 new episodes of children’s series Peppa Pig, with UK animation studio Karrot set to take over creative production duties from original show creators Astley Baker Davies.
The Hasbro-owned eOne has greenlit a further 104 x 5-minute episodes of the cartoon, which will take the total episode count to 485 and ensure a continuous pipeline of new instalments through to 2027.
Peppa Pig is the creation of animators Mark Baker and Neville Astley and produced by Phil Davies and has aired seven seasons since its launch in 2004. It is now broadcast in more than 180 territories and translated into 40 different languages, and follows the adventures of a young pig and her family.
Founded in 2008, Karrot is meanwhile best known for creating British animated series including Sarah & Duck.
Astley Baker Davies will work closely with eOne to transition its production over to Karrot, where Andrea Tran will take the helm as director. Chris White will serve as executive producer, while Jamie Badminton will act as series producer, with Tim O’Sullivan as creative director.
The show will maintain its existing animation style, as well as its music and voice talent. Key personnel from Astley Baker Davies have also been tapped to join Karrot to help maintain the show’s continuity, including Phill Hall who will join has head writer, having previously co-written many episodes of the show.
“As demand for Peppa Pig remains as strong now as it’s ever been, we couldn’t be more excited to announce that additional new episodes are underway. In creating the global evergreen preschool series, Astley Baker Davies have achieved a rare, once in a generation success story,” said eOne’s Rebecca Harvey, EVP of global brand and marketing at eOne Family Brands.
“Peppa Pig has been a huge part of our lives. It’s a source of great pride that it’s given joy to so many children for so many years,” said Neville Astley, Mark Baker and Phil Davies. “Peppa will always be close to our hearts and we couldn’t be more pleased to be passing the torch to the extraordinarily talented team of artists at Karrot who will continue to deliver our adored Peppa to the world for many years to come.”
