BBC Studios’ Lisa Opie steps down as MD of UK production

BBC Studios (BBCS) MD of UK production, Lisa Opie, is to step down.

Opie was responsible for overseeing BBCS Productions and its strategy, taking up the role in 2019 having previously been factual production MD at the commercial arm of the BBC.

In her most recent role, she reported to BBCS’s director of content Ralph Lee and oversaw the studio’s business plan for production, defining its commercial strategy. She also sat on the BBCS executive committee.

Opie, whose next move is not yet known, previously oversaw factual production at BBCS, where she worked on series such as Blue Planet II, Killed By My Debt and Basquiat – Rags to Riches, and before that was controller of business for factual & daytime at the BBC.

She joined the pubcaster in 2013 from Two Four Digital, where she was MD, and has also had stints as MD of content at UK broadcaster Channel 5 and MD of Flextech Television. Her exit was first reported by UK trade Broadcast.
