Netflix reveals top global shows, as viewing of int’l series soars 50% in US
Netflix has unveiled the most popular shows featuring on its service, with Spanish drama Money Heist (aka La Casa De Papel) and German series Barbarians among the hits.
The fourth season of Money Heist hit Netflix’s top 10 most-watched shows in 92 countries, while Barbarians featured in 91 countries.
Korean series #Alive was in the top 10 most-watched shows in 90 countries, while Ragnarok from Norway (89) and France’s Lost Bullet featured in 89 countries.
US viewers looking out
Netflix also added that users of its US service had ramped up viewing of international series, with non English-language title consumption up over 50% in 2020 compared with last year.
Spanish drama The Platform, Germany’s Barbarians and Rogue City from France the most popular.
Korean drama viewing almost tripled, with the second season of Kingdom and The King: Eternal Monarch the most popular, whilst consumers watched twice as much anime series compared with 2019. Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution and Blood Of Zeus were top titles, the streamer said.
Docs & reality double
Twice as much time was spent watching documentaries and reality TV this year than last year, Netflix said, with top docuseries including Tiger King and Killer Inside: The Mind Of Aaron Hernandez.
Its most successful documentary features were American Murder: The Family Next Door and The Social Dilemma. On the reality TV side, Floor Is Lava, Love is Blind and Too Hot To Handle were the most popular releases of the year.
