Netflix axes ‘Glow’ following Covid delays

Netflix has cancelled comedy series Glow due to delays caused by Covid-19.

The series had been picked up for a fourth and final season last year, and production had begun at the start of this year, but was shut down early due to the pandemic. The show has now been cancelled due to the production delays.

Created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, Glow followed a group of female professional wrestlers and starred Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin and Marc Maron.

“Covid has killed actual humans. It’s a national tragedy and should be our focus. Covid also apparently took down our show,” Flahive and Mensch told US trade Deadline.

“We were handed the creative freedom to make a complicated comedy about women and tell their stories. And wrestle. And now that’s gone. There’s a lot of s***ty things happening in the world that are much bigger than this right now. But it still sucks that we don’t get to see these 15 women in a frame together again.”

“We’ve made the difficult decision not to do a fourth season of Glow due to Covid, which makes shooting this physically intimate show with its large ensemble cast especially challenging,” revealed Netflix in a statement.

The news of the cancellation came on the same day that Netflix also dropped Teenage Bounty Hunters after just a single season.

The comedy, which debuted just two months ago, shared an exec producer with Glow in Jenji Kohan. The creator of Orange Is The New Black, Kohan made the series as part of her multi-year overall deal with Netflix.

Teenage Bounty Hunters joins mystery drama The Society, coming-of-age story I Am Not Okay With This and fantasy adventure The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance as shows recently axed by Netflix after a single season.
