Renewals round-up: Netflix extends ‘Warrior Nun’; Apple returns to ‘Ted Lasso’
‘Warrior Nun’ fights again
Fantasy action series Warrior Nun has been renewed for a second season at Netflix.
Inspired by the manga series Warrior Nun Areala, the show follows a 19-year-old woman who comes back from the dead with incredible new powers and discovers she is now part of an ancient order tasked with battling demons that walk the Earth.
However, there are also powerful forces representing both heaven and hell that want to find and control her.
Created by showrunner Simon Barry, the 10-episode first season of Warrior Nun premiered on Netflix at the start of July. Alba Baptista, Kristina Tonteri-Young and Lorena Andrea are among the cast set to reprise their roles for the sophomore outing.
‘Ted Lasso’ back for a rematch
Apple has renewed sports comedy Ted Lasso for a second season, less than a week after the show premiered on the Apple TV+ streaming service.
The second outing will have 10 episodes and is expected to air next year. The comedy is produced by Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television and stars Jason Sudeikis as the titular character, a Kansas college football coach hired to help train a professional English team despite having no real experience.
The character first appeared in an NBC Sports Video in 2013 to advertise that the network was beginning to broadcast English Premier League games and was later brought back.
Sudeikis also serves as executive producer, alongside Bill Lawrence and Jeff Ingold for Doozer Productions, while Liza Katzer serves as co-executive producer.
