Hulu Japan gets ‘Filthy Rich’ from Newen Distribution

Filthy Rich

Hulu Japan has bought two seasons of New Zealand family drama Filthy Rich from Newen Distribution.

The drama, originally commissioned by New Zealand’s TV2 and produced by Filthy Productions, has already been sold into Hulu out of the US and Fox in the Middle East. The format is also being remade Stateside by Fox.

The acquisition (20 x 45 minutes; 14 x 45 minutes) marks the first series out of New Zealand to land on the Nippon TV-backed platform, as well as its first partnership with a French distributor.

Filthy Rich is centred on the three illegitimate children of one of New Zealand’s wealthiest men, who discover they each have a claim to their father’s fortune after his suicide. The programme aired on TV2 from 2016 to 2017.

The show is to launch on Hulu Japan in 2020.

Filthy Rich marks one of Newen’s top English-language offerings. The TF1 Group-backed distribution outfit recently completed its acquisition of Canadian scripted producer-distributor Reel One Entertainment to boost its English-language scripted output.
