CBS welcomes Armoza’s scripted format ‘La Famiglia’ into the US
US broadcaster CBS has started development on a US version of Israeli scripted format La Famiglia.
The adaptation, to be known as The Last Happy Couple, will be produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Fulwell 73 and Anoynmous Content. It will be written and executive produced by Liz Astrof (The King of Queens).
The format is distributed by ITV Studios-owned Armoza Formats and started its third season on Channel 13 in Israel earlier this year. It has already been remade around the world, with an Indian adaptation (locally titled Mind The Malhotras) streaming on Amazon.
The 45×30’ show was first produced by United Studios of Israel and follows the lives of a normal suburban family living in the divorce capital of the country who attend therapy to deal with their various issues. Each episode is a new session in which they bring up the most embarrassing, bizarre and awkward moments that are a part of every family’s life.
Ben Winston and Jeff Grosvenor from Fulwell 73 are among exec producers on the US reboot, alongside Robyn Meisinger from Anonymous Content and Ran Dovrat, Avi Belkin, Ohad Perach, Efrat Dror, Zivit Davidovitch and Avi Armoza.
Sharon Levi, head of sales at Armoza, said: “CBS feels like the natural home for a family comedy like La Famiglia and with her extensive experience, Liz Astrof is the perfect writer for the project.”
