Distribution round-up: DocuBay expands across Europe; Wag acquires ‘Krow’s Transformation’
DocuBay strikes Vidya distribution deal
Fledgling documentary streamer DocuBay has appointed The Vidya Collective to expand its distribution efforts in the UK and EMEA.
The Vidya Collective will develop relationships with regional strategic partners to expand the reach of DocuBay, which is backed by Indian outfit IN10 Media.
Earlier this summer the company unveiled a distribution pact with smart TV solutions provider Foxxum, which saw DocuBay added to the company’s devices worldwide.
The Mumbai-headquartered OTT service specialises in documentaries and unveiled plans to TBI earlier this month to enter the fray as a major doc buyer and commissioner, keen to snap up global rights for the right projects.
Clare Kandola, CEO at The Vidya Collective, said: “IN10 Media’s experience bringing audiences fresh, engaging content ties perfectly with Vidya Collective’s experience delivering high quality, compelling services to audiences in these territories.
“At a time when audiences increasingly seek high quality and inspiring documentaries, and with greater investment in the documentary genre, we are excited to distribute this fresh, new membership VOD offering.”
Wag adds feature doc Krow’s Transformation
UK-based producer and distributor Wag Entertainment has acquired documentary Krow’s Transformation, which has been produced and directed by Gina Hole Lazarowich.
The 1 x 90 minute show follows the three-year transition journey of trans model Krow, exploring the continual challenges faced by the fashion model, including hormone therapies and numerous invasive surgical procedures.
The doc, which will be sold by Wag at MIPCOM, is from Vancouver-based production company They Film and is set to open the Raindance Film Festival in London on September 18.
Janice Strangward, head of sales and acquisitions at Wag Entertainment, said: “This extraordinary and candid film is a real testament to the special relationship which developed between Gina and Krow over a long period of time and shines the light on many issues that need to be faced during a transgender journey.
“It’s a great opportunity for viewers to learn about gender transformation and to begin to understand the myriad obstacles, challenges and ultimately freedoms that this change can bring.”
