Netflix boards second season of ‘I Am A Killer’
Netflix has boarded a second season of Znak & Co.’s I Am A Killer, days after the title launched on the streaming giant in the UK.
The 10 x 60-minute true crime series, originally ordered by A+E Networks-owned channel Crime+Investigation, has been recommissioned by the network for a second run, with a second window to follow on Netflix.
The programme debuted on Crime+Investigation in October but launched on Netflix earlier this month.
The docuseries features in-depth interviews with some of the longest-serving prisoners in the US – many of whom are on Death Row.
The second season will feature women serving life sentences alongside Death Row inmates, and is to explore themes of repentance and redemption.
Executive producers on the show include Danny Tipping, Ned Parker and Natalka Znak for Znak & Co., and Diana Carter for Crime+Investigation.
Znak & Co. is currently in production on physical competition series Ultimate Tag for Fox. The prodco’s slate includes Revolution (Fox, Sky), Meghan Markle: American Princess (Fox) and Name That Tune (ITV).
Znak said: “Amazing access and incredibly gripping stories have made this format a global fan favourite, attracting incredible critical response. This is a great success for our factual department, led by Danny Tipping who has built a team of talented crime and docu experts making Znak & Co. a real player in this genre.”
Tipping added: “I’m extremely proud of this series – it shows that you can tell these challenging stories with integrity and without compromise, and still find a global audience.’’
Diana Carter, commissioning editor for C+E and executive producer, added: “I Am A Killer plays a key part in our programming strategy, sitting alongside other locally produced hits like Murdertown With Katherine Kelly and the forthcoming Evil Up Close. Our audience of passionate true crime fans appreciated the thoughtful and carefully crafted approach of the filmmakers to such controversial subject matter. We are proud to bring it back for a second season.”
