Lionsgate TV lines up US remake of ‘Veni Vidi Vici’
Lionsgate Television has acquired the US rights to NENT Group’s Veni Vidi Vici for adaptation.
Lionsgate’s remake is being developed by Rafael Edholm (writer, director and star of the original Veni Vidi Vici) and Fredrik Lundberg for HandsUp STHLM, together with Kim Magnusson and Madwood Studios’ Michael Flutie.
HandsUp and Madwood are partnering to develop the series for the US and international markets.
Lionsgate is the global distributor of NENT Group’s original productions Swedish Dicks, Superswede and Cold Courage.
The Veni Vidi Vici original has already been picked up by international media partners including Hulu in the US and SBS in Australia.
Veni Vidi Vici explores the dramatic consequences of a struggling arthouse film director’s foray into the adult entertainment industry. The original ten-part series, which premiered on Viaplay in April 2017, stars Thomas Bo Larsen Rafael Edholm, Livia Millhagen and Michael Wincott.
Jakob Mejlhede Andersen, NENT group head of content, said: “Nearly half of our originals have been sold internationally – and now we’re set for our very first remake. Outrageous, unsettling and curiously touching, Veni Vidi Vici has attracted international acclaim from the start. A US remake in partnership with Lionsgate is fantastic recognition of the Veni Vidi Vici team’s talents, the vibrant Nordic creative scene and NENT Group’s unique storytelling capabilities.”
Rafael Edholm, added: “We continue to take this tale of complex characters navigating absurdity from Viaplay to the world. Together with Lionsgate, Madwood Studios and the team, I look forward to creating something I haven’t seen yet but would definitely pay a buck to watch. We came, they saw, and now we’re ready to conquer the US.”
NENT Group lines up comedy original The Ambassador
Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) has lined up comedy drama series The Ambassador as its next original title.
The Ambassador will be the first NENT Group original to be filmed in three language versions – one for each Scandinavian market.
It will be produced in Swedish, Norwegian and Danish versions with a cast from each respective country.
The series will premiere in 2020 exclusively on NENT Group’s Viaplay streaming service across the Nordic Region.
It follows the apparently respectable façade of a Nordic embassy in Mexico City, where a lucrative arms deal is in the making.
Filming of the Swedish version (Ambassadören), which stars comedian Mikael Tornving is already underway, with filming of the Danish and Norwegian versions starting soon. The 10-episode series is produced by Brain Academy, a NENT Studios company, and written by Patrik Ehrnst (Swedish Dicks).
Mejlhede Andersen said: “This is local storytelling with boundless ambition – one super sharp script made even more relevant by three tones and textures. The Ambassador is NENT Group’s first original series with dedicated Swedish, Norwegian and Danish versions, which shows both the potential of the format and our commitment to creating content that resonates with every audience.”
