Netflix’s Bajaria to lead non-English series as Barmack exits

Netflix VP of content Bela Bajaria is set to lead its international non-English TV originals as Erik Barmack, Netflix’s VP of international originals for Lat Am, EMEA and India, makes his exit.

Bajaria, who joined the business from Universal 2016, will oversee scripted and unscripted series in all international markets where Netflix is available, excluding Asia.

There will not be a replacement for Bajaria’s VP of content role as Netflix will now divide all English language series and have Cindy Holland, original series VP, oversee them, while Bajaria focuses on non-English language series.

As Bajaria takes the reins, Barmack is making his exit after eight years with the business to start his own production company.

Bajaria steps into the role as international content becomes a driver of growth for the streamer. Around 80% of new subscriber growth is coming internationally, according to Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos.

He said: “Bela Bajaria is an incredible creative talent — bringing global hits like You, Nailed It and Queer Eye to Netflix. She is the perfect person to build on our international efforts, helping to bring the world’s stories to the world whatever the language.”

Barmack added: “Leading the Netflix international originals team these last few years has been the adventure of a lifetime. I couldn’t be more proud of everything we achieved and wish the team all the best for the future.”
