Golden Globes nominations: FX, Amazon & HBO top Netflix

FX, Amazon and HBO have surpassed Netflix in nominations for the 76thannual Golden Globes, which were revealed yesterday (6 December).

FX received ten nominations, for the award show which will be held on 7 January 2019, for Best Drama (The Americans, Pose), Best Limited Series (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story) and many of the actors of its shows picking up noms for their performances.

HBO and Amazon reached a tie, and both received nine nominations for their shows. HBO’s Barry is nominated for Best Comedy and Sharp Objects got a nom for Best Limited Series, while Amazon’s Homecoming is in the running for Best Drama alongside The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and A Very English Scandal, which are up for Best Musical/Comedy and Best Limited Series.

Netflix trails behind the trio with eight nominations including Best Drama for Bodyguard, Best Comedy for The Kominsky Method and various nominations for its actors.

The result is particularly poignant for FX, which will be joining Disney once its acquisition of 21stCentury Fox is complete. The network will also be preparing for the end of many of its titles including The Americans and its American Crime Story series, which looks unlikely to continue after FX lost talent Ryan Murphy to Netflix.

Sandra Oh is up for Best TV Drama Actress for her role in BBC America’s Killing Eve; Richard Madden is up for Best TV Drama Actor for Bodyguard and Jim Carrey is up for Best Performance by an Actor for Showtime comedy Kidding.
