Int’l Emmy Awards: Spain’s La Casa de Papel, UK’s Man in an Orange Shirt take top titles
A string of European productions took top titles at the 46th International Emmy Awards, held in New York on Monday (19 November).
Spain’s La Casa de Papel, coproduced by Atresmedia and Vancouver Media, took home the award for best drama series and the award for best TV movie/mini-series went to the UK’s Man in an Orange Shirt by Kudos, the BBC and Masterpiece.
Meanwhile, the award for best telenovela went to Portugal’s Ouro Verde (The Payback) by Plural Entertainment Portugal.
European nominees also took home titles in the unscripted space with the BBC’s Goodbye Aleppo taking the title for best documentary and Belgium’s Did You Get The Message? winning the non-scripted entertainment award.
The arts programming award went to the Netherlands Etgar Keret: Based on a True Story by BALDR Film/NTR.
Lars Mikkelsen won the best performance by an actor title for his role in the DR Drama, ARTE France, SAM le Français-produced Herrens Veje (Ride Upon the Storm).
The best performance by an actress award went to Germany’s Anna Schudt in Ein Schnupfen hätte auch gereicht (The Sniffles Would Have Been Just Fine).
Outside Europe, Israel’s Nevsu took home the title for best comedy. The comedy is produced by Endemol Shine Israel, Reshet 13, Gesher Multicultural Film Fund and Avi Chai Foundation.
Best short-form series went to Chile’s Una Historia Necesaria (The Suspended Mourning) by Tridi Films, CNTV and Escuela de Cine de Chile. The non-English language US primetime program award went to Universo and Endemol Shine Boomdog-produced El Vato (season two).
