Netflix orders WWII animated drama from A+E, Unique Features
Netflix has ordered World War II animated drama series The Liberator, produced by A+E Studios and Unique Features in partnership with Atlanta-based animation studio School of Humans.
The Liberator explores the battlefield odyssey of maverick US Army officer Felix Sparks and his infantry unit as they fought for over 500 days to liberate Europe during WWII.
The title is based on the book The Liberator: One World War II Soldier’s 500-Day Odyssey by Alex Kershaw.
Produced in Trioscope enhanced hybrid animation, the four-part series will be the first to try the new patent which combines CGI and live-action performance.
The series was created, and will be written, by Die Hard creator Jeb Stuart. He will also executive produce through his Real Folk Productions.
Sin City’s Grzegorz Jonkajtys will serve as director for the entire four episodes. He will join The Schools of Humans’ L.C. Crowley, Brandon Barr and Mark Apen as executive producer.
The Unique Features executive producers are: Bob Shaye, Michael Lynne (Lord of the Rings) and Sarah Victor.
Barry Jossen serves as executive producer for A+E Studios and Alex Kershaw serves as co-producer.
