Hootenanny comedy The Bisexual scores presales with Canal+, Stan
Ahead of its debut on Hulu and the UK’s Channel 4, Hootenanny comedy The Bisexual has secured presales with Canal+, Stan and New Zealand’s Sky Network.
The six-part series is written, directed and stars Iranian-American filmmaker and Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Desiree Akhavan.
It is produced by Sister Pictures-owned comedy label Hootenanny for Channel 4 in the UK and Hulu in the US.
Through distributor All3Media International, deals have now been secured by Canal+ Group in France and all its territories, Sky Network in New Zealand and by Australian SVOD Stan.
The title explores the differences between dating men and women from the perspective of a person who finds herself – for the first time – doing both.
BAFTA-nominated Maxine Peake and Brian Gleeson will star alongside Akhavan.
Nick Forward, Stan chief content officer, said: “Desiree Akhavan is an extraordinary talent, and her unique take on the complications of modern dating is incredibly timely. We’re looking forward to bringing The Bisexual to audiences at the same time as its worldwide premiere.”
Louise Pedersen, CEO at All3Media International, added: “In The Bisexual, Desiree Akhavan gives us a unique and very honest view of contemporary dating. It’s a testament to the quality of the show that major broadcast partners Canal+ and Stan have come on board at such an early stage alongside Channel 4 and Hulu, and we look forward to further deals over the coming months.”
