BBC announces new comedy from Benidorm creator

BBC Studios has ordered a 6×30’ series from the creator of Benidorm, Derren Litten. Scarborough, which filmed a pilot earlier this year, will begin production on location early next year and air on BBC One in summer 2019.

The show follows the lives and loves of a handful of residents in the sometimes sunny beach resort in North Yorkshire, where every week the locals gather in a karaoke bar to swap gossip and belt out 80s classics.

The Scarborough pilot was developed and produced for BBC Studios by James Farrell and Stephen McCrum, who is also executive producer along with Chris Sussman

Derren Litten said he was thrilled to be back at the BBC, “And with a show I am so passionate about. After 10 years of Benidorm I really do think Scarborough is going to surprise a few people and in very good way.”

Chris Sussman, head of comedy, BBC Studios Production says: “Derren writes with humour, heart and soul – and we couldn’t be more pleased to be bringing all that to BBC One. Get ready for plenty of singalong moments…”
