Disney preps SVOD service launch with exec reorg
The Walt Disney Company has reorganised its marketing executives as it steps ups its plans for the launch of its SVOD service.
It has moved its top marketing exec Ricky Strauss to the new role of president of content and marketing for the upcoming Disney SVOD service.
Studio veteran Asad Ayaz replaces Strauss in his former role as president of marketing. He will report to Walt Disney Studios president Alan Bergman.
Strauss will report to Kevin Mayer, chairman of direct-to-consumer and international.
Interestingly, OTT programming chief Agnes Chu will continue in a senior position as senior VP of content for Disney’s streaming service and she will now report to Strauss.
Strauss will be responsible for all facets of content marketing for the service while president of Disney’s streaming service Michael Paull will oversee product technology, distribution, customer acquisition and lifecycle marketing.
Cathleen Taff will now act as president of theatrical distribution, franchise management and business & audience insight.
“We are fortunate to have a wealth of talented leaders at The Walt Disney Studios, and even as the wonderful Ricky Strauss takes on a new role for Disney’s streaming service, the elevation of our own Asad Ayaz and Cathleen Taff provides continuity of leadership alongside new and diverse perspectives that keep our business ahead of the curve,” said Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios.
The news marks the latest shuffle Disney has seen as it prepares for its summer 2019 SVOD launch. Recently, it was also reported that Disney’s head of international Mark Endemano has departed the company.
