ABC Australia picks up Fremantle’s Recording Studio

Australian public broadcaster ABC has announced plans to create a local version of FremantleMedia’s new music-based factual entertainment format The Recording Studio.

The deal follows other pick ups by BBC1 in the UK and DR in Denmark.

The Recording Studio was launched at MIPCOM 2017. It follows ordinary people as they are given the chance to step into a world-class recording studio and capture the most important song of their lives.

A team of skilled producers and talented musicians helps each participant bring their song to life as they reveal why that particular track means so much to them. In each case, it could be a deeply personal, funny or uplifting memory that explains their attraction to the recorded song.

The show will be produced locally by FremantleMedia Australia, which is currently in the process of casting the series.

The show is scheduled to air in 2019 and is part of a broader trend in the format business to find music-based formats that are flexible enough to play across different parts of the schedule and are not reliant on competition mechanics.
