Apple inks first overall deal with Bates Motel’s Kerry Ehrin

Apple has closed its first overall deal with Bates Motel’s co-creator Kerry Ehrin, who will also act as showrunner for the company’s morning show drama with Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston.

Ehrin will replace Jay Carson (House of Cards) who has so far acted as creator and showrunner for the morning show. Apple and production studio Media Res have parted ways with Carson over “creative differences”.

This marks the second showrunner to depart the company over creative differences, with Bryan Fuller departing from his role on Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories in February.

The Bates Motel alum will executive produce alongside Aniston, Witherspoon and Michael Ellenberg of Media Res, who came up with the idea for the show.

Apple signed the show as its first drama series last November, after a bidding war with other networks. Since then, it has signed 12 new originals, which are set to launch in Spring/Summer 2019.
