A look back at 30 years of TBI history: Rupert Murdoch (1990)

TBI turns 30 this year, and to celebrate we will be publishing a series of archive articles chronicling the evolving television and entertainment landscape since 1988.

Our first retrospective is a profile of a younger Rupert Murdoch back in 1990. At this point, the buccaneering executive was still attempting to establish Sky TV as the UK’s leading pay TV provider.

Look out for a reference to a failed venture with The Walt Disney Company, which ended with the two firms settling their issues over the loss of the Disney Channel in court. Murdoch and the Mouse House will be hoping their latest agreement goes more smoothly.
