Netflix sets second Colombian original
Netflix is set to bring its second Colombian original series, Siempre Bruja, to its worldwide audience in 2019.
The show is slated to begin production in the summer of 2018. It is based on the novel Yo, Bruja, by Isidora Chacon.
Siempre Bruja follows 19-year-old Carmen, a Colombian slave and witch from the 17th century, who travels in time to escape being burned at the stake.
The young adult drama will be produced by Caracol Television for Netflix. It is a ten hour series directed by Liliana Bocanegra and Mateo Stivelberg. Ana Maria Parra will be head writer and Dago Garcia will act as executive producer.
“We’re excited to continue investing in the wonderful content and talent Colombia has to offer, and especially to be working with Caracol, as well as the creators of hit shows such as La Esclava Blanca,” said Erik Barmack, vice president of international originals.
“Our second Colombian original Siempre Bruja is not only a magnetic young adult story that audiences will love, but also holds a powerful message of empowerment that will connect deeply with members both in Colombia and globally”.
This new series joins a larger slate of original productions being filmed in Latin America, including the recently announced Colombian original series with Dynamo Productions, as well as Ingobernable, Club de Cuervos, La Casa de las Flores, Edha, Narcos, Samantha!, O Mecanismo, O Matador, 3% and Coisa Mais Linda.
