Netflix orders second German original
SVOD giant Netflix has commissioned a second original drama from Germany.
Dogs of Berlin follows Dark, which debuts globally to Netflix subscribers on December 1.
The new show will follow two unconventional cops who take up the fight against the criminal underworld in Germany’s capital city.
It centres on the murder of a superstar German-Turkish footballer on the eve of a major international game. Felix Kramer and Fahri Yardim star, with Katharina Schüttler and Anna Maria Mühe also among the cast.
Christian Alvart created and wrote the series, which his Syrreal Entertainment is producing. Alvart is producing with Syrreal colleague Sigi Kamml, with the former also directing.
“Dogs of Berlin is a cutting-edge crime drama series with thriller elements set in the different sub-worlds of modern Berlin,” said Erik Barmack, VP of international original series at Netflix. “It’s gripping, fast-paced, tense and emotional in a way that can only be realised at Netflix.”
“Netflix gave us the freedom of creative storytelling and we developed a narrative that goes far beyond conventional crime thrillers,” said Kamml, adding: “Dogs of Berlin digs deep into the swamp of organized crime in Berlin – and soon our heroes themselves are on the verge of drowning in it.”
