Hulu raises Black Sails
US streaming service Hulu has bought pirate drama Black Sails, securing rights to the fourth and final season in the process.
The deal with Lionsgate Television comes after three seasons of solid ratings in the US for premium cable channel Starz, which recently became part of the Lionsgate Entertainment business following a US$4.4 billion takeover.
The series is set on the high season 20 years before Robert Louis Stephenson’s Treasure Island novel begins. It follows Toby Stephens as feared pirate Captain Flint.
Internationally, the series has appeared on SVOD services such as iflix and Starz Play.
On the new programming front, Starz recently boarded the BBC adaptation of Howard’s End.
