CBeebies boards new Andrew Davenport show
UK children’s channel CBeebies has commissioned the debut series from the partnership of Andrew Davenport’s new prodco and Bento Box Entertainment’s kids division.
The 50x22mins Moon and Me comes from In the Night Garden creator Davenport’s Foundling Bird and Bento Box’s Sutikki, which former Nelvana execs Irene Weibel and Andrew Kerr set up last year.
Davenport has written and produced the preschool series, which is set for CBeebies in the UK in 2018. Inspired by stories of toys that come to life when no-one is looking, Moon and Me will follow the friendship of two characters from “completely different worlds”.
Thanks to the pact with Foundling Bird, Sutiki is the lead producer and distributor (excluding the UK), and will sell merchandising. Pre-production is underway in the US and UK.
Davenport said: “The time is right for a new approach to pre-school storytelling and – like In the Night Garden and Teletubbies [which he co-created with Anne Wood], ten and twenty years ago respectively – Moon and Me will pioneer new production techniques to create the highest standard of quality programming for the CBeebies audience.”
“Moon and Me is a delightful new series with charming stories and innovative production techniques that will really resonate with our viewers and support their creative development,” said CBeebies controller Kay Benbow.
