Wolf Creek to go Pop in US
Australian psychological drama Wolf Creek is heading to US cable channel Pop.
Pop has licensed the one-hour drama from Lionsgate, which in turn has sublicensed distribution rights in Latin and North America from Zodiak Rights.
Pop is a joint venture of Lionsgate and US broadcaster CBS focusing on entertainment, drama and unscripted formats. It will begin playing Wolf Creek on Friday, October 14 at 10pm ET/PT.
Wolf Creek is based on the horror movie of the same name, which introduced serial killer Nick Taylor. John Jarrett, who plays him, reprises the role in the series, which was commissioned by SVOD platform Stan as its first original and follows Lucy Fry (11/22/63) as the lead character.
“Wolf Creek is a binge-worthy, premium revenge tale that we are thrilled to bring fans at the perfect time of the year,” said Brad Schwartz, president, Pop. “To turn everything you expect from a horror film around and hunt the psychopath through a strong and singularly-focused female protagonist is thrilling to watch.”
Lionsgate’s director of acquisitions, Lauren Freeman, brokered the deal to acquire the rights with Zodiak Rights’ VP, sales and acquisitions, Andreas Lemos.
Fox UK is already a buyer of the series, having done its deal with Banijay Group-owned Zodiak Rights.
